Cupboard Staples

This page contains information on the basics of my cupboard – that is the items I always make sure I have on hand so I know I can make something amazing at short notice.

Now that I see it in a list, it looks like a lot, but these are things you can slowly build up and they last for a long time.

Canned Goods

  • Black Beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Coconut Cream
  • Corn in Brine
  • Straw Mushrooms
  • Tomatoes
  • Tuna
  • White Beans – Cannellini or Butter

Grains and Pasta

  • Bulgur Wheat
  • Israeli Couscous (also known as Dried Moghrabieh)
  • Pasta – Ribbon – Fettucine, Spaghetti or Tagliatelle*
  • Pasta – Tube – Macaroni, Penne or similar
  • Red Lentils (also known as Masoor)
  • Rice – Jasmine, Basmati, Black and Arborio

Herbs and Spices

I always use Black Pepper Corns and Pink Rock Salt

  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Chili Flakes
  • Cinnamon
  • Clove
  • Coriander Seed (whole)
  • Cumin Seed (whole)
  • Mixed Herbs
  • Nutmeg
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Star Anise
  • Sumac
  • 5-spice

Sauces, Stocks and Condiments

  • Capers
  • Jalapenos in brine
  • Lemon Juice
  • Lime Juice
  • Maggi Gravy Powder (yup, I know, but it is so easy)
  • Mayonnaise ( Kewpie is my go-to)
  • Mustard – Dijon, American and Seed
  • Oil – Olive and Sesame
  • Olives
  • Peppercorns in Brine
  • Pickles
  • Pomegranate Molasses
  • Soy Sauce – Light, Dark and Golden
  • Stock Cubes – various
  • Stock – I love Campbells stock but recommend the low-salt version
  • Tahini
  • Vinegar – Balsamic, White and Vinegar
  • Worcestershire Sauce ( I swear my youngest drinks this stuff!)
